Can anybody please explain the rule in connection with the spelling of words in present continuous, eg why do we double the 'm' in swimming & the 'n' in running but not double the 't' in eating, the 'k' in talking or the 'y' in playing? They are all consonants so that can't be a reason. Also, do we drop the 'e' with make, drive & type when using 'ing' because it's a vowel?
