Present Simple Passive

In the first article about the Passive Voice with tenses you can learn more about the forming of the Present Simple Passive. 

Declarative sentences

Subject + AM/ARE/IS + Past Participle (+ by...)

Examples: 

  • The book is made from paper.
  • Grass is eaten by cows.
  • Cars are usually produced in factories.
  • Trucks are repaired by mechanics.

Negative sentences

Subject + AM NOT/AREN'T/ISN'T + Past Participle (+ by...)

Examples: 

  • The book isn't made from paper.
  • Grass isn't eaten by cows.
  • Cars aren't usually produced in factories.
  • Trucks aren't repaired by mechanics.

Questions 

AM/ARE/IS + Subject + Past Participle (+ by...)

Examples:

  • Is the book made from paper?  
  • Is grass eaten by cows?
  • Are cars usually produced in factories?
  • Are trucks repaired by mechanics?

Positive answers

  • Yes, it is/Yes, they are.

Negative answers

  • No, it isn't/No, they aren't
Asking questions we can also use so called wh-questions, e.g.:
  • What is the book made from?
  • Who are trucks repaired by?
